Cotati Redwood Tree Update:.

Thanks to everyone who helped to get the word out about the Cotati Redwood Tree. They have decided to move the tree, but keep it at the Cotati Train Station.
If you may remember, I showed up to speak on behalf of the tree at a SMART Board meeting, at the request of a very passionate arborist, Tom Stapleton.
Here's the letter he sent out to me and other supporters of the tree:
------
All,

This morning I received official word from PG&E & tree moving contractor Environmental Design that the Cotati Tree Chimera will be moved on August 7th to it's new home at the Cotati Train Station. The move is scheduled to take place between the hours of 8:00am & 5:00pm. I was told that PG&E will be making a press release soon. As of this writing, SMART has yet to make an announcement on their website.
With this news, this is a huge victory for the tree. I'm happy to see that SMART has decided to save this truly unique redwood. Although the timing of the move during the hot summer months is not ideal, it's better than the alternative of having it removed. Ideally the best time to move the tree would be in the late fall when temperatures are cooler. This would help the tree avoid moisture stress associated with disruption of the root system.
I would like to thank everyone who has rallied to save the tree and make its relocation a reality. Again this is victory for the Tapian Family, City of Cotati, scientists & redwood enthusiasts everywhere.
